Teacher Expectations
This course will have a variety of exercises to complete each week. Below, you will find a week by week breakdown of activities. This will also include links for online observations. Online observations will allow you to look at both teachers teaching, as well as motivational stories and thoughts that will help you improve as a teacher. Feel free to add to this list.
Strategy AnnotationsBegin a spreadsheet with the following columns:
Read and ReflectFor each chapter in the book, you are to complete a reflection. Your reflections can be done in the form of a blog on your webpage. Simply click on "pages" in your weebly editor, and then go to "add blog." Each post will be a chapter. As the title of each post, state the book and chapter number. Your reflections should include the following:
1. Key points of the chapter 2. What you took away from the chapter, what would be beneficial to you in your future class 3. Anything else of interest Five or Eight Es Lesson Plan: ConstructivismThis will be the first lesson you teach to the class. This will be a shorter lesson, in that it should be about 15 minutes. You will follow the lesson plan template below, and develop a lesson or activity in your major or minor field of study in education.

Communication Lesson and Strategy WorkshopFuture teachers will be given an activity out of the Joining Together textbook related to communication to share/instruct the rest of the class. Sample lessons include:
Research PaperYou will be writing a research paper on the topic Strategies for Developing Interactive Curriculum. For this paper, you will be required to incorporate at least 2 research articles. Your paper must be written in APA style, and should be 5-7 pages in length. Suggested topics/themes:
1. Brain-based learning 2. Technology in the classroom 3. Project or problem base learning 4. Interdisciplinary teaching 5. Communication etc., etc., etc. You can choose anything that you think will help you to create an interactive classroom as your focus, as long as you can justify it! Make sure to include how the strategies could be implemented by a teacher. |
Portfolio Set-UpSet up your online portfolio.
Teaching UnitLater in the semester, you will be required to submit a teaching unit. This unit will encompass 5 lessons. Below is the rubric for the teaching unit. Please take a look at this rubric to determine if you have any questions about the project at this time.
Do, Look, LearnsAfter each major teaching experience (Eight Es, Team building, Unit Plan, Communication), think about your teaching experience, and describe what you did, what you saw from your "students," and what you learned from the experience. This can be in the form of a three column graph, and you can do this in your own private journal, or on your weebly portfolio.
NTTI Lesson PlanThe National Teachers Training Institute (NTTI) is a group focused on using technology in the classroom. You will be developing a lesson plan using their model. The goal here is to think about how to incorporate technology in meaningful ways. Check out the website here.
